Therapeutic Massage/Deep Tissue Massage is the ideal treatment for injuries or muscle pain stemming from sports or work. Therapeutic massage can also help with the aches and pains of everyday life. Therapeutic massage affects the circulatory, lymphatic, nervous and musculoskeletal systems. Many also find therapeutic massage to be relaxing and relieve stress from tight muscles. Therapeutic massage is sometimes referred to as deep tissue massage. These types of massage are usually more vigorous and deeper than a relaxation massage. After a therapeutic or deep tissue massage you often feel as if you have stretched or worked out the body part that was massaged. Therapeutic or deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who: - experience consistent pain - are involved in heavy physical activity - have sustained physical injury. Deep tissue work varies greatly from massage therapist to massage therapist. When receiving deep tissue work, it is important to communicate what you are feeling and provide feedback if the pressure is too light or too deep.

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. The naturopathic philosophy is to stimulate the healing power of the body and treat the underlying cause of disease. Treating both acute and chronic conditions, naturopathic treatments are chosen based on the individual patient – their physiological, structural, psychological, social, spiritual, environment and lifestyle factors. In addition to diet and lifestyle changes, natural therapies including herbal medicine, supplements, IV therapy, and acupuncture, may also be used. Naturopathic Doctors in Alberta are governed and licensed by the Alberta College of Naturopathic Doctors.

Dr. Joanne Day has been practicing Naturopathic Medicine since 2006, after graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. She has a passion for using both traditional medicine and cutting edge natural therapies to help her patients overcome their health challenges.

Dr. Day obtained her undergraduate degree in Engineering but after working as an engineer she realized that she was better suited to a job helping people. After leaving Engineering, Joanne spent a year in South America where she became interested in natural medicine after witnessing it being practiced together with conventional medicine.

Dr. Joanne Day began her journey treating pain with Regenerative Injection Therapies (Prolotherapy) after observing Dr. Trevor Hoffman. She witnessed first-hand the benefits his patients were experiencing from his treatments. Since that time, she has taken numerous courses in Prolotherapy, Lyftogt Perineural Injection Treatment, and Neural Therapy to learn as much as she can to help her patients.

Joanne lives in Lacombe, Alberta with her farmer husband and their three children. When not practicing or studying Naturopathic Medicine, Joanne enjoys skiing and camping with her family.

I recently moved to Blackfalds from Calgary and have incorporated stretching into my treatments, both during sessions and as homecare guidance. I believe that this addition greatly enhances clients’ range of motion and aids in their recovery. My practice often involves treating clients with lower back, hip, shoulder, and neck discomfort, and I’m known for my deep tissue, therapeutic, and cupping massage techniques.

Family and health are my core values, and I believe that healing the body also means addressing mental and emotional well-being.

Outside of work, I enjoy baking, hiking, swimming, and spending quality time with my family. My favorite quote is, “Massage is NOT a luxury, it’s a necessity.”

AK is also used in determining which foods, supplements and medicines will improve or impede a patient’s health. Hannah has been practicing massage since September 2013. Starting a career at a young age means she has grown so much as an individual and professional over that time. Massage has taught her how to care for people from any walk of life. She loves hearing everyones stories and experiences.

In turn she has a passion to find the best treatment for each individual. So that everyone walks out of the massage room happy and with a plan of success to see future improvements.

Hannah enjoys any moment spent with family and friends. Loves getting outdoors, whether that’s walking, beach time or playing in the snow. But can still be caught cuddled up on the couch reading a book to her daughter on those suboptimal days.

Low Level or Cold Laser Therapy uses photons (light) to stimulate the cells in the body, specifically the mitochondria (better known as the powerhouse of the cell). This stimulation of the mitochondria increases energy production within the body’s cells, which can help to reduce pain and inflammation as well as speed up the healing process following injuries. This can be used to treat many ailments such as Migraines, Bursitis and Neurogenic Inflammation, and is even FDA approved for chronic lower back pain and plantar fasciitis. We here at Healing Hands use Erchonia’s Fx 635 Laser.
